Note Rendering does *not* work with MIDI instruments.
By using the Render Dialog in Renoise, you can already quickly and comfortably render the whole song as an audio file, or render only small parts of it in order to reuse parts of the song in the same song again.

Rendering VST instruments can cause issues like fixed frequency rate differences.
This technique is called resampling or freezing, and can either be used to generate new samples and instruments, but also to render down parts of the songs which need a lot of CPU processing power.

----
To avoid opening up the render dialog, then rendering and reloading the wav file again and again, Renoise also offer an action which automates all this for you, and lets you render a selected part in the Pattern Editor with a single shortcut.

Renoise gives you the opportunity to render selected parts of your patterns to a complete sample into a targetted sample-slot.
To do so, select one or more lines in the pattern editor, then right click somewhere in the pattern and select "Render Selection To Sample..." in the context menu. Alternatively you can also use the shortcut "CONTROL/COMMAND + ALT + SHIFT + R". This will basically do what the Render Dialog will do when selecting "Selection in Pattern" at the current sample rate, in real-time mode and will load the sample into the next free instrument slot.

This may be handy in cases you want to create (basic) drumloops that you want to use throughout the song and do not poses of a sample running in the right bpm rate for this job. There might also be other reasons (duo-voice chord or triple-voice chord recording) to do this.
Here is a small video which demonstrates this:

*Start by selecting the instrument and an empty sample slot you want the sample to be in.
<br style="clear: both" />
*Then select the area you want to sample to, by left-clicking the startpoint and then drag all the way down and right (while keeping the mousebutton pressed) to select the area.
*Then you rightclick upon the pattern and click the Render selection to sample option or you press the key-combination lshift+lctrl+lalt+r.

You will notice that the pattern will be ran through. Once done, the instrument-name will change and the name in the sample will also change to a default (logical) value. Ofcourse the whole track will be sampled even if you do not select any of the other columns besides the note-column.

(The drag-mode may be left on when your pointer is hovering above the selected area, pressing alt once will reset this option.)

If you want to create sample based instruments out of plugin instruments, you can also use a dedicated function in Renoise to do this. Please see Render or Freeze Plugin Instruments to Samples for more information.

Quickly Rendering Parts of the Song

By using the Render Dialog in Renoise, you can already quickly and comfortably render the whole song as an audio file, or render only small parts of it in order to reuse parts of the song in the same song again.

This technique is called resampling or freezing, and can either be used to generate new samples and instruments, but also to render down parts of the songs which need a lot of CPU processing power.

To avoid opening up the render dialog, then rendering and reloading the wav file again and again, Renoise also offer an action which automates all this for you, and lets you render a selected part in the Pattern Editor with a single shortcut.
