MIDI Mapping

There are two ways to map MIDI controllers to various sliders (in the DSP/VST effects or in the Mixer Post/Pre faders).

Either through the View Option in the title-menu:

Or by rightclicking in the DSP area and selecting MIDI Map Parameters in the context-menu:

The following dialogue pops up:

  • Selected parameter (in example Track Vol Pan / Post volume): The panel with the Clear button displays the currently selected parameter to be controlled.
  • Channel :This refers to the channel you have set on your MIDI device for the controller to operate on.
  • CC no : The CC number is the control code that is being brodcasted by the controller.
  • CC Type: This refers to the bit type broadcast by the controller. Other types include:
  • Min: Minimum value to move the slider to if the controller goes all the way down.
  • Max: Maximum value the controller can make the slider move to.
  • Invert: Causes the slider to move in the opposite direction of the value it receives.

When the MIDI mapping dialogue is up, all controllable faders and sliders show their mapping value.
By default they have No mapping

It is important to check whether you have selected the Post or Pre- Faders in the mixer:
If you want to be sure to program the Pre-faders, then I suggest you program the Master DSP instead, as pan/vol mixer sliders are connected to the Master DSP sliders.

When clicking upon one of the parameters, the specific description of the mapping turns bold:

Now you can start moving your controller. Renoise will automatically detect which controller is being moved.

When done, the assigned sliders will show a highlighted background to indicate whether the slider is attached to a midi controller.

To get a full list of all assigned controllers,
go to the title menu and select View, then select Show Used MIDI mappings

A quick dialogue shows you a list of MIDI mappings and their corresponding assigned sliders.

To remove all mappings assigned to DSP/VST effect sliders in a specific track, rightclick upon the DSP effect (inside the Effect-frame!) and select Init parameters or press lshift-lctrl-del (Note that all parameter settings are also reset to their default values!).
To remove a specific mapped parameter of a DSP/VST effect, rightclick the DSP/VST frame and select Map MIDI parameters, select the desired parameter to be cleared and press the clear button.

To remove MIDI mappings in the pre/post-faders, select the track in the mixer and then press lshift-lctrl-del, or go to the master DSP and rightclick inside the DSP effect frame and select Init parameters.

Do take care that you have selected the right track. Also be aware that post-mixing attachments as well as pre-mixing attachments are both removed regardless of whether you have selected the post or pre-mixer.

Here is an animated example of mapping the pre-panning to a modwheel controller:
