Download and Install

Downloading Renoise Freeware

The Renoise Freeware edition can be downloaded from the Downloads section. I call it Freeware since it’s not really a Demo: You can do almost everything you can do in the Full version, with the exceptions of rendering your song to WAV and having no ASIO support in the Free edition.

Also the Free edition may not be the latest version of Renoise available. Alphas will not be pubicly released at all, Betas will be released later publicly than the Registered user will be able to obtain. You only benefit from first hands-on usage of Alpha and Beta editions if you are a registered user.

Downloading Renoise Registered

If you purchased a registered license of Renoise, you must go to the user pages and download your registered copy there. Remember, a prior installation of the demo version is required to upgrade the demo with your registered copy.

Upon registering, you will receive an email containing user-account details and a link to the user pages for downloading the registered edition of Renoise, within a few days after the payment is processed. Registration licenses are eligable for a complete revision update (Vx.y to Vx+1.y, meaning if you register 1.28 you can download upgrades up to 2.27 or 2.2, depending what will be the last minor revision before 2.3 is released)

Installing the software

Windows
When you’ve downloaded your Free (or registered) copy, Run the self-extracting executable or unpack and execute the executable and follow the installation instructions during the install.Note: If you plan to install Windows vista and in particular the 64-bit edition, make yourself aware all your drivers related to your audio hardware are supported as of now lots of hardware don’t have 64-bit digitally signed drivers available for Vista!

Mac OSX
If you downloaded the demo version, doubleclick the dmg package and drag the contents to the Applications folder. If you downloaded the registered edition, unpack the contents and drag the folder to the Applications folder. Note that the registered version is called Renoise_reg

Linux
This procedure will install Renoise for Linux in a directory under the user home. At the end of this procedure you’ll get a Single User Installation of Renoise.

First of all download Renoise in a directory where you have read/write access (your home directory “~” should be a good place - the example below assumes that you save the archive in your home directory).
When you have the Renoise archive open a terminal and type the following commands:
$ cd
[enter]
$ tar xzvf Renoise_x_y_z_Reg.tar.gz
[enter]
Once the decompression ended the Renoise_x_y_z directory has been created. Let’s go in it:
$ cd Renoise_x_y_z
[enter]
We are ready to try running Renoise:
$ ./renoise
[enter]

General installation troubleshooting
In some cases a complete uninstall of the previous version may solve problems you found after upgrading to a new version. You are advised to try this first, before posting a question to the community regarding problems after installing an upgrade or doing a reinstall across an existing installed copy.
