File Functions

In the menu-bar you will find the global song file management options that also appear in the Disk Browser.

The New Song (no Template) option loads a song using the default template that comes with Renoise instead of using the user-defined template. User-defined templates may be saved through the Song Settings button in the Property Button bar.

You can also quickly select one of ten recently saved / loaded songs using the Open Recent list.

The Disk Panel
The Disk browser contains three individual panels:
The Preferences Panel, the Folder Panel, and the File Panel.

  • Preset Buttons - The four numbered buttons are user-configurable presets that can be assigned to file locations where you store your songs, instruments, samples, etc. Right-click a preset to store the currently selected folder. Left-click to recall a stored favorite. Note that *Each* option (Song, DSP Chain, Instrument, Sample and Theme) has its own four preset-locations!
  • Song - List song folder presets / save song files
  • Dsp Chain - List DSP folder presets / save DSP-Effect chains.
  • Instrument - List Instrument folder presets / save Instruments.
  • Sample - List Sample folder presets / save Samples
  • Theme - List Theme folder presets / save complete Renoise themes (skins and color configuration)
  • - (Only when Song option selected) Opens render preference window

You can always load a Renoise supported format regardless of the selected radio-button (Song / Instrument / Sample etc.) but if you want to save a specific format, make sure you have selected the correct radiobutton!

On the bottom of the preset menu, you will have options regarding the selected context button. For the Song context, a Render button will appear.
Currently the Sample context has been selected which gives you a minislider that controls the prehear volume. If you click on the arrow next to it you can select wether the sample will be preheard on the master channel or on the currently selected track. This setting allows you to prehear the sample file with specific track effects, or on the master track.

File- panel

  • - Type a search-phrase to filter the file-list, listing only those files containing that phrase.
  • - Toggle show all files
  • - Toggle sample-prehear
  • - Rescan current folder
  • - Create new directory
  • - Rename selected file
  • - Delete selected file
  • - Save file as named in the text-box next to this icon.
Note To be able to save a file, you need to type in the targetname in the textfield next to it to enable the save button!
If the textfield is empty, the save-icon is greyed out and the button does not responds to mouseclicks.
Note 2 If you tend to quicksave a lot (ctrl+s) and you decide to change the filename during your session for whatever good reasons, then first use the save-icon after changing the filename, else ctrl+s would save under its previous saved filename and all your previous work will be lost!

Import options on-the-fly
The “Load file with options” is related to loading import files and will bring up a dialog to offer you to change the file-type import-options on-the-fly. Also the “Use as default” will change the general options in the import preferences from that point.

Loading Multiple entries
You can load multiple sample entries and multiple instrument entries into the instrument table. This is done by either shift-clicking a range or ctrl-clicking selective files. You can load them using the context menu or you can drag them right into the designated spot you desire. For samples you can drag them into the instrument list and have an instrument created for each sample in the selection or drag the selection into the sample-list area and have them loaded into one instrument.
